Croydon Vision News July 2017

Not so much a goodbye as…

At the end of July I’m leaving Croydon Vision to take up a post with Thomas Pocklington Trust. Although I’m no longer to be employed by Croydon Vision, the new job will mean I’m still involved with the charity.

I’ll be working for the newly created, South West London Vision, whose aim is to support local sight loss charities across south and south-west London. I’ll be offering such assistance as advice on fundraising applications.

So, although I’m leaving, I hope to be visiting quite regularly and look forward to catching up with members, volunteers, staff and trustees on a regular basis.

I’ll be replaced by an Interim Service Manager, Bill Brittain, who joins us at the end of June until the autumn, when full recruitment will take place.  I’m sure you’ll give a warm welcome to Bill, who joins us from Barking and Dagenham council, where he was head of Intensive Support and who has a wealth of management experience.

I’d like to thank everyone at Croydon Vision, members, volunteers, staff and trustees for their support, advice and commitment to the charity during my time working here. It’s my firm belief that Croydon Vision has a bright future ahead. (more…)

Advert for volunteer Newsletter Editor

Croydon Vision (the working name of Croydon Voluntary Association for the Blind Ltd) issues a monthly Newsletter which is distributed in print to some 400 members. An audio version is recorded for our Talking Magazine.

We are seeking a volunteer editor to compile and produce the master copy of the Newsletter each month. The main duties are selecting content, encouraging contributions from members, staff and volunteers, copy-editing, formatting and proof-reading the text. Copying and distribution are undertaken by a team, with strict adherence to the delivery schedule. We estimate the editor’s work would take about one day per month. It could be done mostly at home if the successful candidate has a suitable computer. We regret no remuneration or equipment can be offered.

A good style of writing, accuracy and close attention to detail are essential for this post, as are competence in using Microsoft Word, familiarity with desktop publishing, and proven ability to meet deadlines. Experience and empathy with the interests and accessibility needs of visually impaired people are highly desirable.

As Croydon Vision supports vulnerable people of all ages, a Disclosure and Barring certificate and references will be required from the successful candidate. There may be opportunities for involvement with the charity’s other services and activities if desired.

To apply for the post, email volunteering@croydonvision.org.uk and request an application form. Applications must be received by 30 July 2017.

For further details, a sample Newsletter or a paper / large print application form, please contact the Volunteer Co-ordinator using the above email address, or telephone 020 8688 2486.
